‘Ik heb geen bezwaar hoor!’ was zijn reactie toen ik vertelde dat ik een vriendin heb. De wereld is hetero – maar ik heb geen bezwaar’ is een boek dat je moet lezen als je iemand kent die ‘ook zo’ is. En vooral als jij de volgende keer niet met de mond vol tanden wil staan wanneer het over hetero-emancipatie gaat.
Want wat is homosociaal nu weer en zijn hetero’s ook helemaal hetero?Met een soepele afwisseling tussen speels en serieus neemt de auteur Jip van Zeist lezers – die net als zij niet van hokjes en etiketten houden – mee door het land van vooroordelen en onnadenkendheid. Via andere invalshoeken brengt ze dit met humor ter sprake waardoor de lezer makkelijk op het verkeerde been wordt gezet.
En wat moeten we er dan van denken? Het boek houdt de lezer op scherpe wijze een spiegel voor over een sterk onderbelicht aspect van onze uitbundig tolerante samenleving, waarin iedereen mag kletsen over alles.
De reacties van lezers zijn lovend, de uitspraken veelbelovend. Jip van Zeist verklaart taboes tot taboe, simpelweg omdat het eigenlijk heel gewoon is: ‘Als ik een top tien lijstje met kenmerken van mezelf moet opstellen, dan zou lesbisch er zeker niet op staan. Niet omdat ik bij tijd en wijle gewoon hetero ben, maar omdat het voor mij niet de kern van mijn identiteit vormt.’
