Neushoornbaby geboren in Blijdorp
KRAAMVISITE AL MOGELIJK
Afgelopen nacht om 3.02 is er in Blijdorp een Indische neushoorn geboren. Het is een meisje. Moeder Namaste en haar jong maken het goed. De neushoornbaby is al voor publiek te zien in het dikhuidenverblijf Taman Indah. Bezoekers kunnen dus gewoon op kraamvisite komen, op voorwaarde dat alles goed blijft gaan. Bij de entrees worden mensen feestelijk ontvangen met beschuit met muisjes, zolang de voorraad strekt.
Veel fans hebben de afgelopen nacht vol spanning live mee kunnen kijken naar de bevalling via de webcambeelden op www.diergaardeblijdorp.nl/neushoorntje en mee kunnen praten via facebook en twitter. Nu het jong geboren is, kan de kleine ook via deze site live worden bewonderd vanuit de huiskamer. In Diergaarde Blijdorp kunnen de bezoekers echt al op kraamvisite komen.
De verzorgers hadden vrijdag al in de gaten dat de bevalling aanstaande was. Namaste was namelijk erg onrustig en ze wilde niet eten. Uit voorzorg hielden de verzorgers haar binnen. Om 16 uur ‘s middags kreeg ze haar eerste weeën. Daarna volgde een spannende periode totdat om 3.02 vannacht het jong ter wereld kwam. Het is een pittig meisje dat binnen een half uur al op eigen benen kon staan en het heeft ook al gedronken.
Namaste is een ervaren moeder die eerder vijf gezonde jongen ter wereld bracht: vier zonen en twee dochters en nu dus weer een dochtertje. Het neushoorntje is geadopteerd door Zwatra Transport in het kader van het Dieradoptieprogramma van Blijdorp. Zwatra is ook medesponsor van de webcam. Onderdeel van de samenwerking is dat Zwatra Transport zijn naam aan het dier mag verbinden dat nu dus door het leven gaat als ‘neushoorntje Zwatra”.
Indische neushoorns worden in hun natuurlijke leefgebied helaas bedreigd door stroperij vanwege hun lucratieve hoorn. Zij komen alleen nog voor in enkele reservaten in Noord-India en Nepal.
