WK Rummikub met Nederlands kampioen Matthijs Delvers
Van vrijdag 2 t/m zondag 4 november a.s. vindt in Taormina op het Italiaanse eiland Sicilië het achtste Wereldkampioenschap Rummikub plaats. De finale wordt gespeeld op de vulkaan de Etna. Dertig nationaal kampioenen strijden om de titel, de Rummikub World Cup en twee vliegtickets voor een reis rond de wereld.
De Nederlandse deelnemer is Matthijs Delvers, een 32-jarige bankmedewerker uit Zaandam. Vrijdagochtend vliegt hij naar Italië. Delvers hoopt de vierde Nederlandse wereldkampioen te worden, na Peter Mentzij (Londen, 1997), Carla van Perlo (Parijs, 2000) en Jacqueline Beekman (Maastricht, 2006).
Rummikub is al meer dan tachtig jaar een wereldhit. Van het spel dat inzicht, durf en tactiek combineert zijn in 54 landen op vijf continenten ruim vijftig miljoen exemplaren verkocht. Ruim dertig jaar geleden introduceerde Goliath het familiespel in Nederland. In drie decennia gingen hier al zesenhalf miljoen exemplaren over de toonbank. Nog altijd staat Rummikub op 1 in de Top 20 gezelschapsspellen van Stichting SpeelGoed Nederland (2011).
