Het kan! Een vinding die zeker in het huidige economische klimaat zeer welkom is. Het Nederlandse bedrijf LibertyCall heeft een gratis app ontwikkeld waarmee vakantiegangers met hun smartphones gratis vanuit het buitenland met iedereen in de wereld kunnen bellen die de app ook heeft geinstalleerd. De app is deze maand gelanceerd en werkt op de meest voorkomende types smartphones. Het enige dat de vakantieganger nodig heeft is een wifi-verbinding in het hotel of appartement of op de camping. Uit onderzoek van reisorganisaties blijkt dat de meeste hotels en resorts in Europa al gratis wifi aanbieden. En van de kampeerders houdt meer dan de helft bij boeking goed in de gaten of er wifi op de camping is, zo blijkt uit onderzoek van Multiscope. De app van LibertyCall maakt via WiFi bellen van zeer hoge kwaliteit mogelijk. Elk belletje naar andere gebruikers van deze app is gratis. Bellen vanuit het buitenland naar vaste nummers in Nederland kost 3 cent per minuut, en naar mobiele nummers die geen app van LibertyCall hebben 8 cent per minuut \u2013 het maakt niet uit waar vandaan. Vakantiegangers ontlopen hiermee de torenhoge kosten van \u2018roaming\u2019, een toeslag die je betaalt als je \u2018gewoon\u2019 internationaal belt. Installeren van de app duurt niet langer dan twee minuten. Volgens algemeen directeur Arie Groenendal maakt de app een einde aan de angst van veel Nederlanders voor exorbitante telefoonrekeningen wanneer men op vakantie is. Groenendal: \u2018Als je de grens overgaat kun je de \u2018dataroaming\u2019 op je smartphone uitzetten. Op de plaats van bestemming zoek je verbinding met een WiFi-netwerk en je kunt gratis of bijna gratis onbeperkt bellen. Bovendien krijgen alle nieuwe gebruikers 100 minuten gratis bellen naar alle vaste nummers in Nederland als ze zich aanmelden. Uiteraard werkt de app ook als je vanuit Nederland naar het buitenland belt.\u2019 Consumentenorganisaties protesteren al jaren tegen de hoge bedragen die telefoonbedrijven in rekening brengen voor internationaal bellen. Het TROS-programma Radar besteedde er in maart dit jaar nog aandacht aan. Hoewel die tarieven onder grote dwang van de Europese Unie vanaf 1 juli werden verlaagd, betalen beller en ontvanger via de gewone providers nog steeds een maximumtarief van 35 cent per minuut. Via LibertyCall kan dat nu gratis. De app is te downloaden op de iPhone en Android toestellen.
