Ooit gehoord van de opera de ‘koffie cantata’? Wie hield er zoveel van koffie<\/a> dat hij er een opera over schreef?
\nBegin 1700 werd de bevolking van Leipzig bevangen door een krachtige en exotische verslaving. Verslaafd aan een product dat net ge\u00efntroduceerd werd vanuit ‘de nieuwe wereld’. Terwijl een groot gedeelte van de bevolking argwanend tegenover dit nieuwe goedje stond, was er ook een groot gedeelte die zich vanaf die tijd tegoed ging doen aan ……Koffie.
\nVelen dachten dat het slecht zou zijn voor de gezondheid en keken de kat uit de boom. Koffie, de
\ngeroosterde en gemalen boon van de coffea-arabica plant werd de rage van de eeuw.
\nDeze rage werd de onwaarschijnlijke inspiratie voor een opera door Johann Sebastian Bach! Een koffieopera vol charme met vrolijke melodi\u00ebn.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) was een Duits componist, organist en violist wiens werken de Brandenburgse concerten, de Goldbergvariaties van de Partita en de Well-Tempered Clavier omvatten.
\nAlles wat Bach schreef, had een praktisch doel en bovendien was het de bedoeling om simpele religieuze boodschappen te maken voor een algemeen publiek.
\nMaar wat bezielde Bach om een typisch en een zo banaal onderwerp als koffie te gebruiken voor een opera.
\nDe koffiecantata dateert uit 1729 toen een grote groep musicusstudenten elke vrijdagavond bijeen kwam in een koffielokaal in Leipzig, om een concert te geven, wat gebaseerd was op deze studenten.<\/p>\n

De koffiecantata is een lichte opera met komisch getinte stukken erin verwerkt. Bach steekt hierin de draak met zowel de koffiedrinkers als de ouderwetse critici van weleer.
\nDe opera gaat over een vader en een koffieliefhebbende dochter. De vader probeert met alle macht zijn dochter van het duivelse nieuwe populaire drankje af te houden. Hij ontzegt haar alle luxe, maar de dochter wil daar niets van weten. Zij vindt koffie heerlijker dan duizend kusjes en zoeter dan muskaatwijn. Vader weigert zelfs haar huwelijk, waar ze maar mee akkoord gaat. Maar als vader zelf op zoek gaat naar een geschikte echtgenoot voor zijn dochter, eist dochterlief toch dat er een koffieclausule in het huwelijkscontract moet komen. Ze laat in dit contract zetten dat zij dagelijks haar drie koppen koffie mag consumeren.
